Building bedtime routines that actually stick

A predictable evening is less about willpower and more about design. When the steps are the same every night, everyone — kids included — stops negotiating and starts flowing.

Start from the wake-up time, not the bedtime

Work backwards. Decide when the day should start, subtract the sleep your child needs, and you have a target lights-out time.

Keep the sequence short and visual

Three to five steps is plenty. In familymind you can pin the routine to the shared dashboard so it is the same on every device.

  1. Bath
  2. Pyjamas + teeth
  3. Two books
  4. Lights out

Let the routine do the enforcing

Once the sequence is shared, the routine becomes the authority — not the parent. That small shift removes most of the nightly friction.
